Majority of Employees Pass on Lunch

  By Right Management —

Philadelphia — Oct. 16

Only one in five employees take an actual lunch break, according to a new survey by Right Management, the talent and career management arm of ManpowerGroup.

Thirty-nine percent of employees say they eat lunch at their desk and 28 percent say they seldom take any break whatsoever.

In all, 81 percent do not take what used to be considered a real lunch break, according to the survey.

“We might infer that far fewer employees are feeling comfortable enough with their workloads and demands to actually take time away to enjoy breaks for meals,“ said Michael Haid, senior vice president at Right Management.

According to Haid, an organization’s culture often makes employees feel they ought to apologize for stepping out for even a half hour.
